Our new partner charity: FareShare

We’re super proud and excited to announce that we’ve added the amazing FareShare to our list of charity partners.

FareShare is a UK-wide charity fighting hunger and tackling food waste. The charity redistributes thousands of tonnes of good quality, in-date, surplus food to 9,500 fantastic frontline charities. These local organizations help feed and support disadvantaged people across the UK. Nearly 14 million people in the UK are experiencing food insecurity – that’s one in five people. At the same time, over 2 million tonnes of good-to-eat food is wasted each year.

Donations go towards helping FareShare to redistribute surplus food. They help the charity to reach vulnerable people, ranging from isolated elderly people at community lunches, schoolchildren at breakfast and afterschool clubs to people at homelessness shelters.

Without the support from FareShare food it would be really hard. It gives you a brighter outlook knowing that there’s help. We really need this support in our community. Without it there are people who just couldn’t survive.

FareShare food plays a vital role in connecting people with local services that can provide regular meals and wraparound support. Food connects people most in need with the interventions that address the root causes of hunger, rather than just the symptom. A hot meal can bring someone struggling to a support centre, where they can find the people and services that can help them to get back on their feet.

FareShare food helps charities and the people that engage with them access types and quality of food that might ordinarily be out of reach. For those on limited budgets, this means that they can access healthier and more nutritious food, such as fruit and vegetables.

With the support and charitable donations, FareShare can continue to have an impact on a small and large scale. A person facing hunger can get the food they need. The frontline charities that FareShare redistributes an incredible amount of food to can go on to reach over one million people each year.

An average collection will raise enough money to provide 3.5 vital meals to someone struggling with food poverty.

A charity aimed at relieving food poverty and reducing food waste in the UK, which has been running since 1994. FareShare is the UK’s longest-running food redistribution charity. They were born out of the belief that no good food should go to waste, especially when people are going hungry. This belief is as central to their work now as it was 25 years ago.

Idea

The cost of living crisis is driving millions into food insecurity, meanwhile tons of good-to-eat food going to waste in the UK every day. We’ve chosen this charity because its mission means a lot to us, and we hope that it means a lot to our supporters.

We’ve always been planning to add to the list of charities we partner with – we like to give donators an opportunity to support the charity that is closest to their heart. In fact, we’re currently working on forming partnerships with other inspirational charities… keep your eyes peeled.
